SUSTAINABLE FOODS TO ENRICH YOUR LIFE
Heirloom Annie Farms is located on Highway 9 in Black Mountain. Nestled between the mountains and resting on the bank of the Broad River, we grow our Heritage Chickens, Eggs, and Veggies utilizing the fertile soil of this ancient land along with our compost generated on site, and focus on organically growing products that are sustainable and nutrient dense.
Our Microgreens are grown year round using a hybrid-hydroponic system on a sterile substrate. For those who would like a dependable, steady supply of nutrient dense food, we offer a weekly subscription program for microgreens. We grow over 10 different types of microgreens and change the offerings frequently to add variety and interest. Unlike microgreens you get from the grocery, this living food is cut the day it is delivered to you.
We raise Delaware Chickens for meat and eggs. A Heritage breed, the Delaware used to be the preferred chicken to eat across the East Coast of the U.S., prior to the 1950s when the Cornish Cross was introduced and began the chicken commodity industry. Still considered a critically endangered breed, we are working hard to help bring back this amazing bird. We raise them in small batches with all organic feed, forested, and harvest on the farm site at 16 weeks.
Our Chickens and Ducks live in a spacious outdoor setting, protected from predators, but with plenty of room to forage and roam. The ducks enjoy swimming in their pond most of the day. Our egg layers are all pets and enjoy a Non-GMO- organic diet with supplemental microgreens and vegetables from the organic garden. Chicken and Duck Eggs are seasonally available on the farm as we do not use supplemental lighting in the winter to force the girls to lay eggs. Our chicken eggs have a darker and richer yolk that store bought or non organic eggs. Duck Eggs are big and tasty with a deep rich flavor and are widely known as "the baker's secret".
Heirloom Annie grows primarily garlic which is sold at the store and farmers markets. We use this organic garlic in a number of food products that we create, including our organic finishing ad compound butter, pickles, chow chow, and a variety of other culinary items. We also grow additional crops throughout the year including potatoes, sweet potatoes, and winter squashes.
